Rotating Billboard Project

As you may have seen from the massive billboard outside our shop, we are putting it to good use as a rotating outdoor mural space . The billboard had been disused for some time, so we thought what better way to utilise this space than to help promote artists in the Dundee area.

We teamed up with the amazing @openclosedundee to commission our first local artist @mattgow02 to display his work on the board for 6 months. The project was made possible with support from @artnightuk and we can’t thank the festival enough to injecting some adrenaline into what will be an amazing legacy for the arts festival ❤️ all profits from the sales of @mattgow02 ‘s work will go toward our next commission.

The aim of this project is to create a self-perpetuating, outdoor gallery space. An exclusive, limited edition print series will be sold in EH9 Espresso of the piece, the profits of which will go towards commissioning the next artist. The first gallery instalment will be designed by Dundee based artist Matt Gow, who specialises in creating abstract, narrative based illustrations. As Matt says; this piece is inspired by new spring growth in the surrounding area:

“I am an artist living and working in Dundee. My practice is primarily drawing based, informed by what I pay attention to in my daily life - this is usually plants, trees and the element's effect on them. I like to harness a meandering sort of headspace when I work, and draw in a way which feels good kinetically. Drawing in this way helps me give my lines and shapes the sense of character which I see in the trees and plants I'm inspired by.”

We’re absolutely chuffed with how the piece looks next to our shop and, we have just launched the prints for physical purchase online for £… As mentioned above, all the profits made from this project are being self sustained to help other artists. So any purchases would be much obliged. We will also update this blog every 6 months when the next project rolls over.

Much love
